Rapid Response Unit / RRU News is a Culture Liverpool-led project, funded by Liverpool City Council and Arts Council England. As part of the #Liverpool2018 events programme, the project has been designed to put art and culture at the heart of the news agenda, and Liverpool at the heart of every story, as national and international artists respond to global events as they happen.
Life and art collide with thrilling immediacy in this unmissable, unique 10-month commission, taking place from late-February 2018 right through until the end of the year. Within this period, commissioned artists and performers, paired with some of the City’s most innovative and acclaimed arts and cultural organisations, have produced challenging new work based on, and inspired by, a key story or topic that is in the headlines.
Digital, film, live performance and art works have been distributed free nationally and internationally to broadcast, print and online media from a special independent news bureau, which has taken up residence in Liverpool’s St Johns Market.
The public are also be an integral part of the artistic process, and have been given the chance to shape the whole programme, being encouraged to come forward with news stories which matter to them.
Special thanks to Liverpool City Council and Arts Council England for supporting this bold and innovative project.
